Superauthor John Grisham says he scours New York Times obituaries for book ideas.

The “Time To Kill” writer said on Jason Flom’s “Wrongful Conviction” podcast that he’d decided to write his first nonfiction book, “The Innocent Man,” after reading the obituary of a death row exoneree, Ron Williamson.

“He was my age, my same background, and I read that he had come within five days of being executed for a murder he did not commit,” said Grisham. “They write these fantastic stories about people you’ve never heard of. I always check out . . . obituaries.”

His top legal thrillers also include “The Firm.”
