About 20,000 people in the district have been affected by the natural calamity since the past few days. Nearly 15,000 persons have been shifted to various relief camps in the district. Of this, 67,00 persons are in the limits of Kozhikode city.

Some of those who have been forced to abandon their homes have been accommodated at the houses of their relatives.

Teams of the National Disaster Response Force are engaged in the rescue and relief operations.

Officials said that 172 camps were functioning in 57 villages in the four taluks of Kozhikode, Thamarassery, Koyilandy and Vadakara. There are 14,014 persons belonging to 4,235 families. Of this, 107 camps are in Kozhikode; 22 in Koyilandy, 19 in Vadakara, and 26 in Thamarassery.

Plea for vehicles

District Collector U.V. Jose has sought the help of individuals to hire their vehicles to travel to the camps to distribute relief materials. They could contact Vadakara office ( 8547616301), Koyilandy office (8547616201), Kozhikode Collectorate (9446841194 and 8113900224).
