From the short film scripts submitted, 10 will be selected for ‘grooming’. During the grooming process of the fimmakers, they will receive guidance from ‘mentors’ including a director, screenplay writer and a cinematographer.
Filmmakers who dream of showcasing their creations at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) some day may finally get a chance to do so thanks to a first-of-its-kind initiative by the festival this year. The 49th edition of IFFI, to be held in Goa in November, will include ‘Talent Hub’, a ‘short film incubation initiative’ for makers of short films. The filmmakers have to pitch short films, of 30 minutes or less, on the “most unconventional ideas, which are individualistic and hold clarity of vision in their treatment”.
From the short film scripts submitted by director-scriptwriters across the country, 10 will be selected for ‘grooming’. During the grooming process of the fimmakers, they will receive guidance from ‘mentors’ including a director, screenplay writer and a cinematographer.
“These eminent mentors, provided to each of the 10 teams, will… help establish an entertaining and meaningful connection between the filmmaker, audience and the plot. Following the materialisation of 10 selected plots by their mentors, the jury will choose the best three amongst these, which will be framed and capitalised,” read a statement issued by the Directorate of Film Festival.
Three of the final 10 filmmakers will get a chance to convert their scripts into films, funded by the Directorate of Film Festivals, and will get a chance to show their films at the 50th IFFI next year. Through the initiative, festival organisers will try to tap young filmmakers from the vast pool of talent across the country.
The three filmmakers whose scripts are selected will receive Rs 10 lakh each from the government make their films.
“The talent hub competition is only for Indians and the focus of the jury will be on originality of the idea and treatment,” said an official with DFF. The deadline for submission of ideas is November 7.
