At least nine people were killed and seven critically injured in a fire that broke out at a hotel in Delhi’s Karol Bagh area on Tuesday, officials said.

“9 dead in the fire that broke out in Hotel Arpit Palace in Karol Bagh, earlier today. The fire has been doused. Bodies are being taken out now. Rescue operation underway,” said Sunil Choudhary, deputy chief fire officer.

Delhi Fire Service officials said they received a call at 4:35am about the fire at Hotel Arpit Palace on Gurudwara Road of Karol Bagh area.

According to Choudhary, 26 fire tenders were rushed to the spot. Chawdhary said 25 personal were evacuated from the hotel and two jumped out of the building in panic.

A search operation is on to look for people who may be trapped inside the hotel.
