A large number of differently abled people on Sunday took part in an election awareness campaign conducted by the District Election Wing in Tiruvarur under the Systematic Voter Education and Electoral Participation programme.

Riding improvised scooters, over 100 participants converged on West Veedhi of Thyagarajaswamy temple and displayed stickers promoting awareness to ensure 100% voter participation in the elections. They went in a procession from West Veedhi to North and East Veedhis junction.

After flagging off the rally, District Election Officer and Collector T. Anand distributed election awareness pamphlets to bus passengers passing through West Veedhi.

‘Carry ID card’

On Saturday, Thanjavur District Election Officer and Collector A. Annadurai urged the electorate to take their electoral photo identity card and personal identification card without fail to polling booths on April 18 to cast their votes.

Participating in a voter awareness campaign held at Thiruchenampoondi village in Budular block, he exhorted the electorate to exercise their franchise without fail.

Earlier, he explained to voters about the functioning of the Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) machine to be placed along with ballot units at polling booths and why it was included as part of the electronic voting system.

He supervised VVPAT demonstrations at Thillaisthanam and Thirukkattuppalli areas and inspected polling booths at Thillaisthanam, Thirukkattuppalli, Melapoonthuruthi, Nadukaveri and Thiruchenampoondi villages.
