Sources close to Hardik said that it is yet not decided if Hardik will fight the election from a political party or as an independent candidate. Though they said that he will be fighting against BJP.
Patidar quota agitation leader Hardik Patel has decided to take a plunge into electoral politics by contesting for Lok Sabha most probably from Amreli constituency of Saurashtra region in Gujarat. Sources close to Hardik told The Indian Express that it is yet not decided if Hardik will fight the election from a political party or as an independent candidate. Though they said that he will be fighting against BJP.
“He (Hardik) has been offered two seats of Gujarat; Mehsana and Amreli by the main Opposition party, Congress. However, there is a ban on his entry in Mehsana because of criminal case against him. Meanwhile, Amreli is the best option for him to contest and win the elections,” said a source.
The source added that Hardik had declared that he would not fight elections without getting reservation. “Now that the constitutional reservation has been attained (for Patidars and other General categories of the society), the promise stands fulfilled and therefore, Hardik has made up his mind of fighting elections most probably from Amreli.”
Sources close to Hardik also said that the young leader feels that after getting reservation, it would be a better option to serve the youth and farmers of the country as an elected member and probably sitting on some post.
Currently, Hardik is consulting his supporters to finalise the strategy for making electoral debut in the LS elections.
The leader of Opposition in Gujarat Assembly and Congress MLA from Amreli Paresh Dhanani and Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee chief Amit Chavda could not be contacted over the development.
