ZP student showcases award-winning paddy filling machine at innovation fest

President Ram Nath Kovind was all praise for Marripalli Abhishek, a class VIII student of Zilla Parishad High School in Hanmajipet village of Vemulawada mandal for his innovative model — paddy-filling machine.

The President, who inaugurated the four-day Festival of Innovation and Entrepreneurship on Friday in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, inspected all the stalls and was fascinated by the paddy-filling machine designed by the rural teenager. He interacted with Abhishek and inquired about the functioning of the machine and the inspiration behind it. He appreciated Abhishek’s idea and wished him luck.

The project had earned him the all-India third prize at the seventh INSPIRE Awards-Manak conducted at IIT-Delhi on February 14 and 15. Following the achievement, TRS working president K.T. Rama Rao had handed him a cash award of ₹1.16 lakh cash.

Statewide application

The Civil Supplies department has also decided to adopt the boy’s innovation at paddy procurement centres on a pilot basis.

Civil Supplies commissioner Akun Sabharwal had instructed the officials to obtain necessary patent for the machine on behalf of the State government.
