Homes Under The Hammer host Martel Maxwell has taken to Twitter to reveal that she’s suffered a hilarious self-tanning fail after using a product that was out of date. The TV star, 43, explained that her blunder led to some concern from her husband Jamie Parratt, who suspected his wife could be suffering from a serious skin condition.

In view of her 12,500 followers, the BBC presenter revealed why it was that her spouse had been shooting her strange looks throughout the day.

Martel wrote: “Husband looking at me most oddly all day.”

The star explained that the quizzical looks turned out to be out of concern, as he suspected his wife to be suffering from a health issue.

“Transpires he thought I was jaundiced,” Martel penned.

However, she thankfully told fans how she was feeling totally fine, but had just picked up an out of date beauty product.

She continued: “In a clear out last night I happened upon some self tanning face oil.

“It may have been out of date,” she ended her tweet.

The BBC host shares three sons with her husband.

Martel landed the coveted role as Homes Under The Hammer presenter following the departure of long-time host Lucy Alexander in 2016.

The blonde-haired presenter had been hosting the show for 13 years when she left.

Just yesterday, BBC journalist Martel broke her silence surrounding her involvement in The Masked Singer.

Following the opening show last saturday, fans of the programme were quick to claim that the character Mushroom was the TV host.

Taking to the stage, Mushroom sang a rendition of It’s Oh So Quiet by Björk.

The character caught the attention of fans after a handful of clues were unveiled.

The user penned: “@MaskedSingerUK Mushroom I’m guessing as @MartelMaxwell from Homes Under The Hammer.”

After coming across their theory, Martel couldn’t help but add to viewers’ curiosity and stir the pot.

“Was it?!?” she teased, alongside a mushroom emoji.

Another Twitter user chipped in, writing: “I think so too…”

This series of The Masked Singer sees judges Davina McCall, Jonathan Ross, Rita Ora and Mo Gilligan put their detective skills to the test.

Homes Under The Hammer airs daily at 11.15am on BBC One.
