Former The Only Way Is Essex star Kirk Norcross, 33, has revealed he has been diagnosed with PTSD after finding his dad, Mick, dead earlier this year. Taking to social media, the star filmed a short clip where he opened up about finding Mick Norcross, 57, dead after he took his own life in his home in Upminster, Essex on January 21.
He hung himself. And I was the one that found my dad
In view of his 429,00 followers, the TOWIE star spoke about the devastating moment he discovered his dad’s body earlier in the year and addressed the impact it’s had on him seven months down the line.
Kirk said: “I haven’t told no one this, only like my friends and family know. I don’t know why I’m telling Instagram, really,” he shared on his Instagram Stories.
“It’s not for a sob story. I don’t want no special treatment or anything.
“Maybe if I tell more people, it takes a lot of pressure off my shoulders,” he went on.
The reality TV star went on to admit he was the first person to find his dad dead in his Essex home.
“Obviously everyone is aware that I lost my dad due to suicide.
“He hung himself. And I was the one that found my dad,”(sic) he said.
The star added that despite attempts to revive him, he was unable to save The Sugar Hut owner.
Kirk explained: “It wasn’t nice. There was no saving him but I cut him down and tried to give him CPR.
“I don’t take anything away from my old man for doing that, you know. I’d rather do that than some stranger find him. It just eats me up.”(sic)
He added that it’s “a bit hard to deal with”, before adding that he “didn’t know” why he was posting the Instagram video.
“I just thought… I’ve got a lot of pressure on my shoulders lately. I feel good. I’m being a good man for my dad.
“I feel a lot better already, just a bit of weight off my shoulders, you know,” he continued.
The star said that he was having a “bad couple of days”, which was “normal” considering what he’d been through.
He explained: “It’s just normal. Just a bit hard to deal with.
“I was really close to my dad and to find someone how I found him… it is what it is,” he said, sadly.
Kirk continued: “It’s life, though. It does make you or break you. It’s going to make me, I know it will.
“Just got to get up and just be the man my dad wanted me to be. That’s all I can do.”
He went on to say that he’d been suffering from pains in his throat, which led to a diagnosis of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
“Obviously that’s why I’ve just been diagnosed with PTSD,” he explained, before continuing: “I’ve been having this pain where I feel like my throat is closing up and I can’t swallow.
“It’s not life, is it? This shouldn’t happen to people. But it’s my life and it’s what I’ve got to do. And I feel better for talking,” Kirk said before ending the video.
