The second film of the Mardaani franchise is here. Tough lady supercop Shivani Shivaji Roy is in Kota investigating the rather horrific rape and murder of a young student who was picked up by a masked man. A murder later it is established that there is a connection. Like the previous Mardaani film, we know who is the criminal so there is no mystery. The first half sees the killer teasing Shivani as he is just not okay with the idea of a woman having the upper hand. The highlight is obviously the performance from Rani Mukerji. She breathes life into every frame reminding us why we need more of her at the movies. The dialogues are great and throw light on the misogyny prevalent all over Indian society. Vishal Jethwa as the cunning, diabolical and egoistic criminal has good screen presence but his performance is kind of inconsistent. The first half is tightly edited and keeps you glued to the screen. We have to see if Shivani finally manages to catch him in the second half.
