Poldark fans wail ‘I can barely see the TV I’m crying so much’ as Elizabeth DIES after giving birth in drama-filled series four finale

They were each other’s first loves.

But Ross Poldark (Aidan Turner) was left shattered during Sunday night’s finale of the fourth series of Poldark when his childhood sweetheart Elizabeth Warleggan (Heida Reed) died.

The fourth series of the hit BBC drama ended in tragedy when the popular character died shortly after the birth of her second child, with the shock death leaving fans devastated.

Viewers hailed Jack Farthing’s performance in particular, marvelling at how the actor made them feel empathy for the villain of the show.

While viewers are left in shock by Elizabeth’s death, actress Heida, who has played the character since series one, has revealed she has known for awhile how her storyline on the show would conclude.

‘I feel like I always knew what was coming, because of the books and how Debbie [Horsfield] had planned to write out the seasons,’ she told Metro.co.uk. 

‘I knew for a long time, it wasn’t a shock. It was something I knew from the start.’

The actress also teased that her onscreen husband George is set for some emotional scenes as Elizabeth’s death takes it’s toll in the next series.

‘George is not perfect by any means but he really and truly loved Elizabeth,’ |Heida explained, adding: ‘I’m not sure what will happen to him but I think he’ll take it very hard. He’s lost one of the main things that matters to him the most.’

‘I think it will be very hard for Ross too now that she’s gone. All those kind of ifs that they kept asking each other, even though they were in a different place. At least they did end things on a good note.’ 

What’s to come: Poldark is confirmed to return for a fifth series next year
