Real Madrid have reportedly identified Santiago Solari as their No.1 choice to replace Julen Lopetegui.

The former Spain boss finds himself under increased pressure at the Bernabeu after a dismal run of results.

Lopetegui is expected to be given a stay of execution, barring a shock Champions League defeat to Viktoria Plzen in midweek, ahead of next weekend’s Clasico with Barcelona .

But the Real board know they may well have to act and have been linked with a host of names, including former midfielder Guti.

But MARCA report another former player in Solari is the main name in the frame.

Solari is currently in charge of Real’s Castilla side and would be seen as an ideal replacement.

Former boss Zinedine Zidane made the step up from the B team to have an incredible impact and it is hoped Solari could do the same.

MARCA reports there are another four names who could be in the frame, including Belgium boss Roberto Martinez.

The Spaniard took Belgium to the semi-finals of the World Cup and his reputation has soared since he was axed by Everton in 2014.

Martinez is said to be open to a return to Spain to take arguably the biggest job in club football.

He is joined on the reported shortlist by former Chelsea manager Antonio Conte.

The Italian is yet to take a role since leaving Stamford Bridge in the summer to be replaced by Maurizio Sarri.

Real have also been linked with former France and PSG boss Laurent Blanc and more surprisingly Michael Laudrup.

The Dane spent two years as a player at the Bernabeu but has spent the last few years in Qatar since leaving Swansea.

Real need a victory against Plzen in midweek after losing their last Champions League encounter in shock circumstances against CSKA Moscow.
