You may or may not have noticed that celebs have taken to Instagram modelling straw hats this summer, but they’re not just any old sun hats.

No, these are outlandish creations with very wide brims, that are more akin to parasols than hats.

But where did they come from and what’s going on?

Well, it all started when Jacquemus sent Le Grand Chapeau Bomba down the runway. An oversized sun hat with a rather wide brim, it didn’t look too out of place on the Paris runway.

Not for the faint-hearted, the hat took on a life of its own, when made its way off the catwalk.

Coming in at £328 for the small version and £531 for the full size, it wasn’t long before it was spotted on model Emily Ratajkowski and Danish It-girl Emma Rosenzweig.

Followed by Jennifer Lopez, who posted a shot of herself lying on a beach sunbathing in a wide-brimmed hat.
