Former BBC Breakfast star Steph McGovern, 38, shares an 11-month-old daughter with her partner, a BBC executive, whose identity is unknown. Addressing why she tends to keep her personal life away from the cameras, she said she tries her best to lead a normal life.
I’ve never officially come out
She said: “It’s not like I’m ashamed of anything in my life.
“It’s more a case of, ‘I’m trying to lead as normal a life as I can’.”
Steph went on to say her sexuality has never been a problem and that most of her colleagues knew her partner is a female.
“I just want to do my job and I know that my job comes under certain scrutiny, and profile,” Steph continued in an interview with Suzi Ruffell on her podcast Called Out.
“I just think that the less I talk about my private life, the less I can be asked about it.”
It is not known how long Steph has been with her partner, however she announced they had welcomed their first child together back in November.
At the time, she tweeted: “Well hello world, just surfaced to let you know that we now have a daughter!
“Born on Monday morning just as @BBCBreakfast was wrapping up.
“We’re all fine and dandy. Just getting used to the eau de sick/poo I am now regularly wearing. #babylife).”
Since having her baby, Steph admitted she has often been asked who her “fella” is, by those assuming she is straight.
“I’ve never officially come out,” she explained, adding that she has dated both men and women.
“I didn’t do this big thing of ‘I am gay’ like my mate Reg did… I just kind of go with the flow of things, and I did not really overthink it.”

Despite her baby and partner’s identity being private, the ex BBC star does sometimes give fans an insight into her private life.
In a recent episode of her Channel 4 show Steph’s Packed Lunch, she told guests about a “deal” she had with her partner at home.
The host was joined by Dr Rupy Aujla, who cooked a mango and squash curry in the kitchen.
Midway through the segment, Steph’s guest asked her who was responsible for the cooking in her home.
“My partner does it, so we’ve got a deal, I do the bins and,” she began to explain, before she was interrupted by laughter from the audience.
She added: “Bins are awful, aren’t they?
“Especially when it’s raining and you get covered in bin juice. There’s nothing worse!”
Steph turned to the audience and added: “You know what I’m talking about, I’m putting you off your food now, aren’t I?”
Tonight, the host will appear on The Great British Bake Off: An Extra Slice on Channel 4 at 8pm.
