Around 300 TRS leaders from the Manthani Assembly segment including farmers’ coordination committee member K. Swapna, TRS Kataram mandal vice-president Kotte Srihari and others have joined the Congress party in the presence of former Minister and TPCC vice-president D. Sridhar Babu and DCC president K. Mruthyunjayam in Karimnagar town on Friday.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Sridhar Babu alleged that the government was siphoning off Godavari waters through Kaleshwaram project to Siddipet and Hyderabad, neglecting the Manthani assembly segment. He demanded that the government first fulfil the needs of the local farmers in the erstwhile Karimnagar district before diverting waters to other places.

He also flayed the State government for appointing a non-local B. Rajesham as the Kaleshwaram temple trust board chairman neglecting the fact that it was tradition to appoint a Manthani assembly segment local as the Kaleshwaram temple chairman. But, Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao had appointed his childhood friend hailing from Siddipet as the temple chairman flouting all norms, he alleged.

He also charged the government of encouraging the sand mafia all along river Godavari causing huge loss to the state exchequer and also causing huge loss to the environment.

He said that the people were fed up with the TRS government and its false promises.
