Over 900 protesters were arrested across the Krishna district on Tuesday during the bandh observed by the YSR Congress Party activists seeking Special Category Status for the State.

In the district headquarters of Machilipatnam, the police resorted to the preventive arrest of 76 activists, including former Machilipatnam MLA Perni Nani, in the wake of the tour of former Indian cricket captain Anil Kumble on Tuesday. Tiruvuru MLA Rakshana Nidhi and senior leaders Kolusu Parthasarathy and Kondali Nani were arrested on Tuesday morning and released by evening. The party activists have taken out bike rallies across the district to enforce the bandh. All the commercial establishments and petrol bunks remained closed till afternoon. However, the bus services were badly hit for a few hours. Hundreds of the party supporters have joined the bike rally taken out across Machilipatnam.

The police released the party activists in Machilipatnam only after Mr. Anil Kumble left the town by afternoon.

According to police reports, the bandh was observed peacefully without any untoward incident. The special teams led by Superintendent of Police Sarvashresth Tripathi monitored the situation.
