Once a barren land in the middle of apartments and buildings — the open space at Zilla Parishad Quarters — in the heart of Karimnagar town has now been transformed into a beautiful green lung space by the Municipal Corporation of Karimnagar (MCK).

Earlier, residents used to dump waste and garbage in the open ground, now it has a undergone a sea change. It has lush green lawns and flowering plants. The aesthetically landscaped park has become a welcome lung space for the residents of Bhagathnagar, Kashmeergadda, Godhamgaddam and ZP quarters and become a go to destination for recreation and relaxation.

Spread over one acre, the park has a well laid out walking track, beautiful flowering plants, lush green lawns, water fountain, open gym, children’s playing equipment, separate washrooms for men and women and a room for the watchman, among others. The residents are pleasantly surprised at the transformation and grateful that such a beautiful garden has come up in their locality.

The transformation has happened due to the initiative of 31 division corporator Y. Sunil Rao. Bouyed by the release of Rs. 100 crore by the Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao for the development of the town, including some funds for development of parks, the corporator approached ZP Chairperson Tula Uma for the allocation of open land at ZP Quarters to develop it into a park, which would benefit the residents of ZP quarters and adjoining colonies.

Ms. Uma readily agreed and allocated the land to the MCK. The civic authorities took up civil works like building of compound wall, gate, watchman room, toilets and other structures at a cost of Rs. 40 lakh. Later, they developed the garden by spending Rs. 30 lakh.

As part of a planned landscaping the civic officials ensured that only fully grown avenue plantations were planted in the park and the flowering plants were selected to accentuate the beauty of the park. Further, the lawn furniture was designed to resemble fruits like watermelon, apple and banana, among others to attract the children.

Mr. Sunil Rao said that they had to spend an additional Rs. 50 lakh for the laying of CC roads in the ZP Quarters to add beauty to the park. He said that they were planning to get the park inaugurated soon by Karimnagar MP B. Vinod Kumar.
