The Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA) has decided to convene an emergency executive committee meeting soon to discuss the fallout of its decision to reinstate actor Dileep who was ousted from the organisation after he was named an accused in the actor abduction and sexual assault case.

The committee will hold discussions with the Women in Cinema Collective (WCC), which has sought an emergency executive committee meeting to discuss the decision to reinstate Mr. Dileep taken at the association’s general body meeting here on June 24.

Edavela Babu, association general secretary, said the date of the meet will be fixed after actor Mohanlal, president of the body, returns from abroad.

Denies reports

On reports that the meeting is scheduled on July 19, Mr. Babu said it would be finalised only after the return of Mr. Mohanlal, who is expected in two days.

However, he confirmed that the executive committee will hold discussions with the WCC members on the general body decision to reinstate Mr. Dileep. We will inform them officially once the date is finalised, he said.

Actors’ letter

Actors Revathi, Padmapriya, and Parvathy had earlier sent a letter to Mr. Babu stating that they were unable to attend the general body meeting held on June 24 as they were out of station and unaware of the matter being discussed at the meeting (If we had known we would have surely raised our concerns at the meeting prior to such a decision being made), they said.

Four members of the WCC, including the actor who was allegedly abducted and sexually assaulted, had resigned from the association in protest against the decision to reinstate Mr. Dileep.
