The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court has directed a petitioner seeking anticipatory bail to apologise in person with folded hands to the Sub -Inspector of Thirukurungudi Police, Tirunelveli for hurling abuses at him. Justice G. R. Swaminathan restrained the police from arresting the petitioner.

The petitioner Rajarajan had sought anticipatory bail after the police had booked him and his friends under Section 353 ( Assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty ) and Section 506 ( Punishment for criminal intimidation ) of the Indian Penal Code.

The group entered into an altercation with the police during a routine vehicle check.

The police alleged that the group were in an inebriated state and hurled abuses during the vehicle check.
