The government has announced the State-level awards for fish farmers. Pradeep Jacob from Thiruvalla has bagged the award for the best freshwater fish farmer while Lyju Johnny from Mala, Thrissur, was adjudged the best brackish water fish farmer and P.K. Sukumaran, also from Thrissur, won the award for the best shrimp farmer. Fisheries Minister J. Mercykutty Amma announced the awards here on Monday.

Jolly Varkey from Thodupuzha won the State award for adopting modern methods of aquaculture and Chirakara grama panchayat, Kollam, was recognised for its outstanding performance in inland fisheries.

Purse of Rs. 50,000

All the awards comprise a purse of Rs. 50,000, a citation, and plaque. The award for the best aquaculture promoter comprising a cash prize of Rs. 20,000, a citation and plaque, has gone to B. Siddique from Perumathura, Thiruvananthapuram.
