Mahadeva Bhairagonda, one of the main accused in the alleged kidnap and murder of Gangadhar Chadchana of Indi taluk, was arrested by the district police from his house in Keroor village in Indi taluk on Thursday morning.

Gangadhar is the younger brother of Dharmaraj Chadachana, a notorious criminal and wanted in several cases, who was killed in an encounter last October. On the same day of encounter, Gangadhar had gone missing and his mother had been accusing Chadchan PSI, Gopal Hallur (who is now in jail), of conspiring with Bhairagonda to kidnap her son and then later killing him.

When the police allegedly refused to register her complaint, she finally filed a habeas corpus in the Kalaburagi High Court Circuit Bench.

When the case was under way, IGP, Northern Range, Alok Kumar, decided to handover the case to the CID.

The CID first arrested Gopal Hallur and two more constables in connection with the kidnap and murder case of Gangadhar. Meanwhile, Bhairagonda was absconding.

According to the case, Bhairagonda allegedly offered money to Gopal Hallur to bring Gangadhar to him alive.

Till today, the body of Gangadhar has not been recovered. The associates of Bhairagonda, who were arrested in the process, had reportedly confessed during interrogation that they killed Gangadhar after taking him from Gopal Hallur and dumped his body in the Bhima. The police are yet to recover the body in order to strengthen the case against the accused.

Meanwhile, the bail plea of Bhairagonda was also rejected by the district court on Tuesday. Following which, there were reports that he would be surrendering before the police soon. But amid this, the reports of his arrest came on Thursday.
