Kamaleshwari M.S., an alumni of Bharathiar Palkalai Koodam, bagged the first prize in solo dance at the Dance World Cup 2018 held in Montreal, Canada. Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy announced a cash prize of Rs. 50,000 for the winner this week.

After completing her Bachelors in Performing Arts (Dance) in Bharathiar Palkalai Koodam, she went to Chennai for pursuing Master of Arts in Dance at the Madras University. The 32-year-old Puducherry-based dancer after coming back from Canada told
The Hindu
that nearly 8,000 dancers from various countries participated in the competition held at the Fairmont Tremblant.

“The event was organised by International Dance Council (CID), a registered non-profit organisation. They have hosted more than 250 competitions across Canada since 1994. The Dance World Cup celebrated its 11th anniversary and hosted the competition from July 1 to 8.”

“I started learning dance when only after I joined Bharathiar Palkalai Koodam. I had to seek sponsors to travel as I could not afford the trip. Issaimaiyam Trust Chairman William Jan Van Andel and Project Manager Briggte Vink helped me,” she said. Ms. Kamaleshwari added that the competition comprised three rounds, including video screening. She won the gold for her Bharathanatyam dance performance.
