In its war against non-degradable plastic products, a hotel here has started giving 10% discount in the bill to customers who bring cloth bags or stainless steel containers to buy eatables from its eatery.

Corporation Commissioner Alby John Varghese on Friday formally inaugurated this novel scheme in one of the restaurants of Birunthavan Group of Hotels here.

The Corporation has planned to enforce complete ban on use-and-throw plastic products from August 15 onwards and the officials have instructed the traders to strictly follow the ban. After holding talks with owners of hotels, the Corporation administration has appealed to the public to bring either cloth bag or stainless steel containers to buy the eatables instead of getting it packed in harmful plastic sheets and bags.

Hence, the Birunthavan Group of Hotels have announced that customers who buy eatables by bringing cloth bags or stainless steel containers will be given 10% discount in the bill as part of its war against use-and-throw plastic products including bags, cups, containers etc.

Dr. Alby said hoteliers have come forward to give a range of attractive incentives or gifts to customers bringing cloth bags or stainless steel containers. Hence, the public, while enjoying the incentives, should cooperate with the Corporation in eradicating plastic products, he said, adding that textile showrooms have also agreed to switch-over to cloth or paper bags.

During the event Managing Director of Birunthavan Group of Hotels M. Thamizh Selvan and City Health Officer Vinodh Raja were present.
