The 53-year-old businessman, who was arrested for the rape of a 10-year-old girl on Wednesday, was caught by the police after a US-based man sent them screenshots of a chat between the arrested man and his woman friend, a school teacher.
In the chats, police said, the businessman sought the woman’s help to “arrange him a minor girl”. The police said the woman agreed to “provide him” her tuition student, a 10-year-old girl, and also “advised him” on how to deal with the girl to avoid any legal problem.
Police said the minor girl was raped by the businessman multiple times, at the teacher’s house and also inside a car, over the course of a month.
Police said the teacher had threatened the girl against revealing the assault to anyone.
The man, who runs an adventure company, and the woman, a foreign language teacher at a school in Gurugram, were finally arrested after her US-based friend contacted an NGO, which in turn contacted the Delhi Police.
A senior police officer said the US-based man had access to the woman’s social media account.
Police said the man was shocked to read the chats between the duo in which the businessman was asking the woman to arrange a child for him to “de-stress himself”.
“The man took screenshots of the chats and gave it to his friend, who runs an NGO in Kolkata. A representative of the NGO flew to Delhi, handed over the screenshots to the Delhi Police and sought action. The Vasant Kunj North police station was roped in to file a case and investigate the matter,” the officer said.
An investigator said they got the woman’s social media account password from the US-based man and went through all the chats she had with the businessman. Investigators found a mobile number and contacted the person, who turned out to be the uncle of the 10-year-old girl. He works as a driver for the businessman’s mother for more than a decade.
Through him, the police met the girl’s family and brought her to the police station for counselling. When the local counsellors failed to get the girl to share her ordeal, the NGO called its own counsellor from Kolkata for help. The counsellor spoke to the girl and convinced her to write about her ordeal.
The girl wrote that the businessman sexually assaulted her on four Sundays in the last one month – three times at her teacher’s home and the last time in his car, which he had parked in a secluded location in Vasant Kunj, the officer said.
“We registered a case of rape and common intention under the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children From Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and arrested the duo from their homes on Wednesday. They were later produced before a Delhi court and sent to jail,” the officer said.
Police said they have seized the laptops of the businessman to ascertain if more children were assaulted by him.
