The driver of an airport taxi was run over by another taxi when he stepped out of his vehicle to help two bikers whom he had accidentally knocked over, in Yelahanka on Thursday night.
One of the bikers was also killed in the accident, while his friend sustained injuries.
Sreenivasulu, 32, was riding the two-wheeler while his friend Venkata Reddy was riding pillion. At a traffic signal, Sreenivasulu got a phone call and moved the vehicle aside. While talking on the phone, an airport taxi coming from behind hit the bike. The cab driver Ganesh, 35, got out to help the two men who had fallen off. However, while he was walking towards them, another airport cab knocked him down, hit the two-wheeler and also ran over Sreenivasulu who was still lying on the road. Venkata Reddy suffered minor injuries.
Both Sreenivasulu and Ganesh were rushed to a nearby hospital. While the former was declared brought dead, the latter succumbed to injuries early Friday morning, the police said.
Sreenivasulu, from Kadiri village in Anantapur district, was a contract labourer on the Indian Air Force campus in Yelahanka, while Ganesh was a resident of KP Agrahara. The taxi driver who ran over them, Rajesh, has been arrested.
