The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) is conducting an audit of all the capital acquisitions of the Indian Air Force (IAF) including the Rafale deal, Parliament was informed on Wednesday. This was conveyed in a written reply in the Lok Sabha by Minister of State for Defence Dr. Subhash Bhamre. This development comes in the backdrop of repeated allegations by the Opposition about financial irregularities in the Rafale deal.

In September 2016, India and France signed an agreement for 36 Rafale jets in fly-away condition, which includes aircraft, spares, weapons, maintenance and performance guarantee for five years. Earlier, Modi government had cancelled the Medium Multi-Role Combat Aircraft deal for 126 jets after the contract negotiations were stuck over cost.
