An alleged carjacker was detained by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) in the high-security Delhi airport area and was later arrested, the police said on Friday.

The police control room received a call at 11.06 p.m. on Thursday regarding a firing incident at a CISF checkpost. The police rushed to the spot and found that a man had been detained by CISF personnel.

The accused, identified as Shankar, is a resident of Sangam Vihar in Delhi.

He had hired a cab being driven by one Anil Kumar.

CISF personnel stopped the cab at the Indira Gandhi International Airport checkpost. The driver came out of the car but the rider took the wheel. A scuffle ensued and the CISF fired two rounds in Terminal 3 to nab him.

During interrogation, Shankar revealed that he had taken the driver along forcibly.

“The accused was in an inebriated state. He is involved in other criminal cases. We have arrested him under relevant IPC Sections for trespassing and assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty. The case has been registered at IGI police station,” said a police officer.
