Motorcycle-borne miscreants snatched chains of two women in the limits of Singanallur police station on Thursday.

In the first incident, snatchers targeted S. Sathirathinam (50) of RKK Nagar near Neelikonampalayam when she was standing in front of her house around 5.45 a.m., said the police. She lost her five-sovereign chain.

The second incident happened around 5 p.m. The miscreants on motorcycle snatched a nine-sovereign chain from R. Indrani (55) of Kumaran Street at Varadharajapuram when she was crossing the road.

Theft in temple

Unidentified persons broke open Vetri Vinayagar Temple at Pioneer Nagar near Jothipuram and took away three idols and jewellery. As per the complaint filed by temple priest K. Gangaraj, its wooden door was found broke open on Wednesday. Three small idols, 4.1-sovereign gold chain and other valuables worth around Rs. 50,000 were taken away from the temple.

Man electrocuted

S. Raveendran (47) of Vinayagar Kovil Street near Venkitapuram died after he suffered electric shock while attempting to repair a motor on Wednesday.
