Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao dared the Congress to clarify its stand on according special status to Andhra Pradesh and the fate of Telangana in that case.
“Congress passed a resolution stating that it would accord special status to Andhra Pradesh if it comes to power. The industries in Telangana may shift to Andhra Pradesh as there will be industrial incentives. Then what will happen to Telangana? What will be the stand of Congress leaders from here?” asked Mr. Rao while addressing a public meeting at Malkapur where he laid foundation stone for the construction of underpass that would be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs. 26 crore on Tuesday.
“Let the Congress define what special status is and whether it will be confined to only Andhra Pradesh. If tax concessions are accorded to Andhra Pradesh, the same must be accorded to Telangana as well,” he said adding that the BJP has failed to give national project status to even a single project in Telangana while it was extended to Polavaram project.
Earlier in the day, Mr. Rao also laid the foundation stone for the expansion of Isnapur crossroad to six-lane road at an estimated cost of Rs. 12.63 crore and the work would be completed within six months.
He said that to arrest the congestion at Patancheru a market yard is being established at an estimated cost of Rs. 5 crore.
Informing that the road from Kukatpally to Sangareddy is repaired at a cost of Rs. 50 crore, he said that four-lane road from Pashamylaram to Outer Ring Road was sanctioned and an effluent treatment plant would be constructed and Rs. 102 crore was sanctioned to curb pollution, he said.
Lok Sabha member K. Prabhakar Reddy, MLAs G. Mahipal Reddy, Chinta Prabhakar and others participated in the programme.
