Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has urged Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to drop the move to shift the proposed Indian Coast Guard Academy from Irnavil in Kannur.
The Chief Minister, during a meeting in Delhi on Thursday, told Ms.Sitharaman that land for setting up the academy had been transferred near the Naval Academy at Ezhimala in 2011 and the then Defence Minister had laid the foundation stone for the project there. The Union Environment Ministry has denied permission for the academy citing the CRZ notification. But following the amendments made to the notification recently, such projects could be cleared, Mr.Vijayan told the Minister. He sought the Minister’s intervention to clear the project and offered total support for setting up the academy.
