The wife of a police constable is battling for life in a city hospital with 90% burns after she attempted suicide allegedly unable to bear harassment by the husband.

According to police, K. Lakshmi Prasanna, wife of K. Murali Krishna attached to the Ajith Singh Nagar police station, attempted suicide on Saturday afternoon by setting herself ablaze at her home.

She was a former home guard in West Godavari and married Mr. Murali Krishna four years ago. The incident came to light only on Wednesday and the condition of the victim, who received about 90% burns is said to be critical even on Wednesday.According to the Ajith Singh Nagar police, the statement of the victim had been recorded by a magistrate. Ms. Prasanna in the statement alleged that her husband had been making an issue out of everything for no reason since long.

“On June 30, Murali Krishna reportedly thrashed his son for playing outside their home. This led to an argument between the duo and triggered the victim to attempt suicide after the husband left home,” a police official said. At present, Mr. Murali Krishna is taking care of his wife at the hospital along with other family members.

Police said that he would be booked under Section 306 for abetment of suicide considering the developments in the case. However, the accused is under the watch of police.
