The State government would constitute a coordination committee of officers from various departments to supervise the works in urban local bodies, Municipal Administration Minister Ramesh Jarkiholi said on Saturday.He was speaking at a division-level review meeting of officers and legislators at the Suvarna Soudha here.

“We have received complaints from people’s representatives and local officers that there is no coordination between officials of urban local bodies, the Karnataka Urban Water Supply and Sewerage Board, and theKarnataka Urban Infrastructure Development and Finance Corporation. We are therefore setting up a coordination committee of officials from all these departments,” he said, adding that they would also be regularly supervised by senior officials of the Municipal Administration Department.

Divya Shivaram, chief executive officer of the Cantonment Board of Belgaum, sought funds for maintenance and development works. She said the State government had stopped funding cantonment boards in 2011. The Minister said he would discuss the issue at a meeting of officials to be called within a fortnight.

Belagavi City Corporation Commissioner Shashidhar Kurer said that overhead tanks have been built at a cost of Rs. 39 crore in the city, as part of the 24×7 drinking water supply scheme. This started in 48 wards in 2015. Of the total project cost of Rs. 345 crore, the city corporation would spend Rs. 128 crore while the rest is a grant from the Union government.
