The city police are issuing photo-challans to book those who park vehicles by flouting the rules. The move is aimed at reigning in bus crew who park away from the marked bays, as also call taxis, autorickshaws and private vehicles whose haphazard parking causes problems.

The police will take a photo of the parked vehicle and send the photo-challan through the Regional Transport Office, asking the violator to pay a fine of Rs. 500. Booking and fining every violator at the spot was proving to be difficult, given the manpower shortage and also because of the time it consumed. Therefore the new approach to issue the photo-challans under Rule 179 of the Motor Vehicle Act, said a release from City Police Commissioner K. Periaiah.
