Andhra Pradesh Dairy Development Cooperative Society Commissioner Murali said that proposals to set up a mega dairy unit at Kondapavuluru village of Gannavaram mandal in the Krishna district is on the anvil, and proposal worth Rs. 362 crore was submitted to the State government for the project.

Speaking to the media at Madanapalle after inspecting the trial run of the tetra pack unit, Mr. Murali said that a 40-acre land had been identified for the mega dairy plant. After bifurcation of the State, the imminent need for setting up of the big venture was being felt by the government, he said.

The official said that the Vijaya Dairy unit was being sanctioned at V.Kota in Chittoor district, and the infrastructure building would start soon. He said that attached to the unit, a chilling centre with a capacity of 25,000 litres per day would also be built, and Rs. 6.50 crore had been sanctioned for the initial works.

For the purpose of administering the procurement of milk from farmers, and for making payment to them, the integrated cooperative development project-2 had been set up at Rs. 257 crore outlay, and Rs. 47 crore had been sanctioned in the first leg.

Procurement capacity

The APDDCS Commissioner said that the capacity of milk procurement both by the public and private sector in the State was estimated at 100.55 lakh litres per day
