The United Farmers Association – Tamil Nadu has urged the State Government to desilt all the supply channels in the delta districts downstream of Grand Anaicut (Kallanai) to ensure that the water released from the Stanley Reservoir at Mettur reached even the tail-end fields and dry water bodies.

on Monday that most of the water released would run off into the sea if the supply channels and other water bodies were not desilted. Mr. Vaiyapuri said the State government had announced that water bodies would be renovated with the participation of farmers under the Kudimaramathu Scheme. Contrary to the assurance of the government, farmers’ associations were not involved, and the works were carried out through contractors haphazardly, Mr. Vaiyapuri alleged.
