Sustained emphasis by Rajya Sabha MP N. Siva on articulation of issues in Parliament in mother tongue has fetched results.

Interpretation facility in five additional languages including Konkani and Kashmiri will henceforth be introduced during the Rajya Sabha proceedings.

Thanking Vice-President Venkaiah Naidu for introducing the interpretation facility, DMK Rajya Sabha MP Tiruchi N. Siva told reporters here on Wednesday that the DMK had been espousing the rights of MPs to speak in mother tongue during parliamentary proceedings, for long.

Mr. Siva said he had aired the demand for broadbasing the interpretation provision for regional languages when he met Mr. Naidu on his first day in the Chair of Rajya Sabha. Mr. Naidu had issued orders to offer interpretation facility in Dogri, Kashmiri, Konkani, Santhali and Sindhi. The Vice-President had, in his speech, recalled Mr. Siva’s demand made in the Parliament while honouring empanelled consultants and interpreters at Parliament House in New Delhi on Tuesday.
