The activists of the DYFI clashed with IUML loyalists over poster writing on Monday.

The police said tension was brewing at Periyattadukkam, near Periye, over the past two days. It snowballed into an assault involving the rival groups on Monday. The Bekal police have taken into custody a suspected IUML worker in connection with the incident. The flare-up began on Saturday at the Periyattadukkam inter-junction road ter a group of DYFI loyalists painted the “green” coloured tyres heaped on the road with white colour, in protest against the alleged surfacing of communal tendencies, attributed to the murder of the SFI activist on the Ernakulam college campus. In an apparent retaliatory act, suspected IUML loyalists repainted the tyres green the following day. However, the tyres

were again painted white later in the night.

The chain of events led to clash in which 3 DYFI activists sustained injuries. The tyres were later removed from the spot.
