The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Monday conducted an awareness camp on election related cyber security for election officers, assistant election officers, polling officers and assistant polling officers from Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala, Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep, said a release from the district administration.
In the camp that saw the participation of over 150 officials, Deputy Election Commissioner Sandeep Saxena spoke of the facilities the Commission had introduced such as letting citizens carry out basic operations such as enrolment in voters’ list, deletion of names, carry out corrections, and uploading photograph online.
Such changes were necessary given the pace at which information technology was changing governance, he said and added that the data with the Commission was safe.
He emphasised the need for making data secure by asking officials in-charge of election-related work to enhance their knowledge in the field. Chief Electoral Officer, Tamil Nadu, Satyabrata Sahu, Chief Electoral Officer, Gujarat, Muralikrishna, and Commission’s Director, Information and Technology, Sahul Kumar participated.
