The Election Commission has told the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) to create a uniform format for reporting discrepancies between the assets and liabilities shown by candidates in their affidavits and those declared to the Income-Tax Department. It plans to make the findings public. The Commission has asked the CBDT to submit verification reports, classifying the candidates in five categories.

The letter follows a CBDT response to the clarifications sought earlier, cautioning the Commission against making public the reports of the candidates, in view of a privacy provision in the I-T Act.
