The officials of the Forest Department have arrested five persons in connection with illegal supply of around 65 kilograms of sandalwood.

According to the officials, based on confirmed information, a raid was conducted in Alur Tanda 2 in Indi taluk on Wednesday. The five persons were arrested and the sandalwood was seized during the raid.

The names of the arrested persons were given as Yellappa More, Govind, Kumar Gayakwad, Lakshman and Ramesh Solapur. All the accused are said to be from Pune district in Maharashtra. They cut the sandalwood trees in the forest range of Indi and Sindgi taluks of the district.

The officials said that the accused were trying to sell the wood in Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh.
