The water level in the Cauvery in the district significantly receded on Wednesday with rainfall slackening in the catchment areas of Kodagu.
Cauvery water was being discharged at the rate of 81,841 cusecs on Tuesday morning.
Though the discharge rate rose to 82,029 cusecs by the evening, it decreased to 76,106 cusecs at 6 a.m. on Wednesday. The discharge quantum dipped to around 61,000 cusecs by the afternoon and further deceased to 19,000 cusecs at 6 p.m., according to the officials in the Irrigation Department.
The people staying in the villages along the course of Cauvery heaved a sigh of relief as the flow in Cauvery has been receding, officials added.
Meanwhile, the Gowthama Kshetra Mutt near Doddegowdana Koppalu near Srirangapatna is still inundated.
Efforts to bring Gajanana Swami out of the Gowthama Kshetra have not yielded any results.
A team comprising officials of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), police, revenue, health and other departments was sent to the ashram on Wednesday. In spite of requests, the swamiji refused to leave the ashram.
The team left the ashram instructing the local authorities to constantly monitor the situation there.
