The police on Tuesday arrested a 38-year-old man involved in illegal sale of lottery tickets and seized cash amounting to Rs. 55,670 and two mobile phones.

The police sources said that following information on the sale of illegal lottery tickets, a team led by STF inspector Karthikeyan laid a trap and arrested Barkath Ali alias Babu of Kariamanickam in Puducherry.

The police said the accused had been selling Kerala lottery tickets using mobile phones.

The
modus operandi
of the accused was to allow people to select three numbers using the mobile phones and send the list of numbers selected by the customers to an agent. The accused confessed to his involvement in the crime. A case has been registered. In another incident, the police arrested three persons for selling lottery tickets at Villianur. The accused Ashwathaman, 24, Settu alias Rajesh, 20, and Murali, 26, were arrested. Two mobile phones and Rs. 53,900 was seized from them.
