Four persons, allegedly involved in around 60 cases of mobile snatching, have been arrested, the Gurugram police said on Wednesday. Thirty-five mobiles have been seized from their possession.

The accused have been identified as Shivam alias Gullu, Vikas, Kapil and Kuldeep. While Gullu and Kuldeep belong to Rajasthan, Vikas is a resident of Nuh. Kapil is from Babripur in Narnaul.

Anti-snatching staff, Sub-Inspector Sandeep Kumar said the accused, all drug-addicts, used to snatch phones to arrange money for drugs. He said that the accused stayed on rent in different parts of the city and would spend most of their time taking drugs on railway tracks in the outskirts of the city.

The gang was mostly active in west and east Gurugram.

“More than 80% of the snatching cases were reported in west Gurugram. The accused would inject themselves with drugs before any operation. They committed the crime in a group of two or three and mostly travelled on motorcycle,” said Mr. Kumar.

The police said they have solved 15 cases with the recent arrests. The motorcycle used in commission of crime has been seized.

The accused would sell the mobile phones to random people, mostly poor labourers, at throwaway prices. They also had a receiver in Ferozabad in Uttar Pradesh. Mr. Kumar said that the receiver of the mobile phones and a few other members of the gang were still on the run.
