The Fisheries Department has sanctioned Rs. 12.5 crore for shoreline protection works in the Eravipuram Assembly constituency, said a statement issued by M. Noushad, MLA, here on Wednesday.

The fund was allotted from the Kerala Industries Infrastructure Funding Board based on the detailed project report submitted by the Kerala State Coastal Area Development Corporation (KSCADC).

As part of the project, the shore from Kollam beach to Thanni will be protected.

‘Work to begin soon’

“Residents of Eravipuram have been demanding breakwaters for a long time. As the next step the corporation will prepare a detailed estimate. We are expecting to start the construction works shortly,” said the statement. The KSCADC has been designated as the Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) for the project.
