An International Conference on Clinical Ultra Sonography in Practice – XVI CUSP 2018 – is being organised from September 27 to 30.
Organised by MediScan, this is the 16th biennial conference on fetal medicine.
About 78 national and international faculty members are expected to participate in the meet, according to a press release.
Every year, an estimated eight million children are born with serious birth defect of genetic or partially genetic origin.
Birth defects can occur in any family. Early prenatal and new born screening programmes coupled with intervention services improves the child’s quality of life, the release said. Under the India Newborn Action Plan that was launched in September 2014 with the aim of ending preventable newborn deaths and still births, essential components of intervention impacting stillbirths and newborn health have been identified.
In this, pre-conception and antenatal care were the foremost priority. The conference will cover topics in obstetrics, gynaecology, general ultrasound genetics and fetal medicine. It will begin with sessions on genetics and prenatal testing to provide an update on the current prenatal genetic testing options available and how to appropriately offer and discuss them with patients. The organisers have requested the Health Secretary and project director of National Health Mission to provide conference sponsorship for select candidates in the government hospitals and primary health centres, the release said.
