The police have made elaborate arrangements in view of the visit of the Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit to Gandhigram Rural Institute near here on Wednesday.

As opposition parties used to stage demonstration during the Governor’s visit to districts, the police have been taking all necessary efforts to ensure that there was no untoward incident.

As a precautionary measure, 1,500 personnel, who have been drawn from a few southern districts, have been deployed en route, a senior officer said.

The Governor is expected to arrive at Gandigram around noon from Madurai airport.

He is expected to go around the Rural Energy Centre, to get a glimpse of the exhibits, the department activities and address students and faculty members. Later, he would proceed to Dindigul where he would halt at the Circuit House.

After an overnight stay, Mr. Purohit would go around the town on Thursday and collect petitions from the public. He is expected to participate in a couple of programmes at the Collectorate and proceed to Chennai via Madurai, officials said.

Though the DMK has planned demonstration, there was no official word from the party functionaries.
