Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday asked the Centre to respond “positively” to Pakistani Prime Minister-in-waiting Imran Khan’s offer of dialogue.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi must respond to this call with utmost positivity. This opportunity needs to be grabbed at the earliest for a peaceful South Asia,” she said on the 19th foundation day of the PDP here.

Reaching out to its alienated party cadre, Ms. Mufti described her move to align with the BJP in 2016 as a “compulsion”.

“I was not for this alliance. I took three months [to form the government] but drank the cup of poison because of my father Mufti Muhammad Sayeed’s larger agenda,” she said.

Claiming to have faced “immense pressure” during the two-year alliance with the BJP, she said her party made no compromises.
