Labour and Skill Development Minister T.P. Ramakrishnan on Monday said that the government proposed to bring in amendments to reform the existing Headload Workers Welfare Act and urged labour unions to submit their recommendations within a month’s time.
Addressing a joint meeting of headload workers’ unions here, Mr. Ramakrishnan said the headload worker scheme, as envisaged in the Act, would be extended to all districts. By Onam, uniform wage structure would be implemented in the remaining three districts of Idukki, Wayanad and Kasaragod.
He urged the unions to weed out ineligible persons who had secured registration and job cards illegally.
