Help centres to provide information to the public on government schemes and help people make applications and get eligible assistance from the government will be started in each local body in the district as a pilot project under the aegis of the Public Relations Department (PRD).

The project to start PRD sahaya kendras in panchayats and municipalities linking local libraries will be launched this month, according to PRD officials here.

The kendras to be started in the local bodies are envisaged as centres for information about all government-sponsored schemes and projects. Local libraries, clubs, and other voluntary organisations will be selected and designated as PRD sahaya kendras.

“In the sahaya kendra, all details about government schemes, eligibility criteria, mode of application process, address, and details of the offices to be approached will be made available to the public,” E.K. Padmanabhan, District Information Officer (DIO) said.

Details of government services and copies of government orders will also be available at the centre, he added.

A committee under the chairmanship of the District Planning Committee will be constituted for monitoring the activities of the kendras.

Role for Collector

The District Collector will be the director of the project and the DIO will be its coordinator. The committee will coordinate the departments concerned and the local bodies for this project. Local-level monitoring committees will also be in place, according to the project report.
