The revision of the property tax structure has resulted in the change of address of households in the city.
So far, all the households were known by revenue wards. Now, this has been done away with in all the 75 wards in the corporation.
In fact, the existing system of places having both revenue and electoral wards has been creating confusion among the residents, officials said.
For example, from 2005, a household in Malaparamba ward was known by 34/ 84D ( 34 representing the revenue ward and 84D, the house number).
However, the civic body in 2008 replaced the household address by 5/2364 (5 representing the electoral ward and 2364 the house number).
At that time there were only 55 wards in the city. Now, the corporation has given a new number 8/2734 ( 8 representing the electoral ward and 2734, the house number). This was because the number of wards increased to 75 from 55 after the merger of Elathur, Beypore and Cheruvannur-Nallalam grama panchayats in 2010.
Many residents feel that they will have to change their address in all official records, including passport and Aadhaar card, if the corporation numbers have been incorporated in them.
“Unfortunately, the majority seems not bothered with the change since the recent property tax collection was done based on the existing number,” T.K. Rajalekshmi, a resident said, hoping that the civic body would also modify the details on its database.
